PUʻUHONUA SOCIETY RECEIVES GRANT FROM OFFICE OF HAWAIIAN AFFAIRS (OHA) FOR CONTACT 3017

December 20, 2016

HONOLULU (Dec. 19, 2016) — Pu‘uhonua Society is pleased to announce that it has received a $5,000 ‘Ahahui Grant from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA). These funds will support the fourth annual CONTACT exhibition, an exhibition of contemporary art in Hawai‘i, on view March 31 – April 16, 2017 at the Honolulu Museum of Art School.

The exhibition will feature artwork by local artists exploring the theme of contact in Hawai‘i, particularly around the theme of 3017, Hawaiʻi in a thousand years. Artists are asked to take on the role of futurologists, envisioning and forecasting probable, possible and unknown futures of the Islands. CONTACT 3017 will also include a series of complementary programs (lectures, panel discussions, films, etc.), which along with the exhibition, will be free to the public.

“We are ever grateful for OHA’s support of local and Native Hawaiian contemporary Artists,” said Josh Tengan, CONTACT’s exhibition manager.  “CONTACT 3017 provides a platform for artists and audiences to engage in dialogue around Hawai‘i’s futures and to envision our home a thousand years from now.”

Through a highly competitive application process, OHA awards grant funding to meritorious community projects that support at least one of its six strategic priorities: culture (including the visual arts), land and water, governance, economic self-sufficiency, education, and health.
